What is Kief and What do you Do with It?

If you’ve experienced the marijuana world, you might know what kief is. If not, here is everything that you need to know about it, and what it can do for you.

What is Kief

If you’ve ever touched a bud of cannabis and your fingers are sticky afterwards, and you can see crystals or hair, those sticky particles that are there are called kief. They are specifically called trichomes, which are gathered. They’re tiny little resin glands and are packed with cannabinoids and terpenes that a lot of people like. This is due to the fact that both of these offer unique aromas and flavors. Because of the high concentration of this, usually kief is more potent than the regular cannabis plant.

Where Does it Come From

While most believe that kief is just part of the marijuana flower, the reality is that it’s on both the buds and the leaves, so for those who are cannabis fanatics, you will collect these specifically from the marijuana flower. If you’ve ever wondered how it comes from cannabis, there are actually ways to collect it. Most of the grinders you see have screens that let you catch kief from the chamber to the bud.  For a more expert feeling to it, there are kief boxes that let you filter out the type of kief you have until you’ve just got the trichome heads. This does take time, but if you love cannabis, it’s worth it.

Why’s it more Potent

The answer is simple. it’s because they have cannabinoids, but also sugar leaves, bracts, and calyxes, so when you have a flower like this, you’re consuming a product that isn’t as concentrated. But the trichomes in kief are much more concentrated with THC, and cannabinoids too. While the flower itself may have up to 35% THC, kief can have almost 80%, sometimes higher with the right techniques.

What you Should Do With This

If you’re not sure whether or not you want to use kief one way or another, it’s important to know that there are different, effective ways to consume kief. The most popular one is “crowning a bowl” which is used by those who are experienced in consuming cannabis, where they put kief into the pipe, and usually helps make the strain more potent.

You also can roll this too if you’re a fan of rolling products. You also can pinch this before you close the roll, since there are people that’ll dampen the outer part of their cigarette with kief before consumption. Then there is hash.  Has is of course, kief that’s been pressurized, heated, and then rolled up into a bowl that’s soft. Those who are experienced might do this themselves, or if you go to the dispensary, you might be able to purchase has to consume.

You can also coat the flower bud with this, since the marijuana flower that’s rolled in the kief itself is called moonrocks.  You can do this by heating up the cannabis, roll this into kief, and then dry it, then break this apart to vape or smoke. Finally, you can make cannabutter, which is butter that has the flower-infused, and it also creates concentrates such as kief. You can then make brownies and other marijuana products for you to consume. If you are interested in consuming kief, try it, and see if it’s right for you. You can also talk to someone to find out if kief is the right option, or if you’d rather use regular flowers for cannabis consumption too.
