Tips on Using this Course

We occasionally use QuickTime movies to demonstrate a concept or technique. In order to play these movies make sure you have QuickTime version 5 or higher installed before you start. QuickTime is a free download from the Apple web site.

We've provided a test movie that you will be able to view and hear, if you have QuickTime properly installed.

The course is best viewed at 1024 x 768

If you are working on a monitor set at a lower resolution you can adjust the size of the left menu frame by moving it to the left or right (see example movie). You can also adjust the text display size in your browser window by going to your browser menu View> Text Size> Smaller (View> Text Zoom> 90% on a Mac).

Navigation

We recommend that you use the buttons at the bottom of each page to move through the course in the order presented. This menu at the left is a series of folders and links that you can use to access the various sections and subsections of the course. It will make it easy for you to skip around, pass those topics that are not of interest to you, or return to sections for review. (see demonstration movie). If you navigate using this menu alone, you will likely miss some of the inside pages, so again... use the buttons on the bottom of the page.

For the purpose of this short preview, some of the links have been removed.

The "How To" page

Many people want to know how to accomplish specific tasks, so we've set up this page with a list of the topics you might like to jump to with links to the appropriate sections. We recommend that you don't use this page alone, because you'll miss most of the course's content and many of the more advanced techniques involve maneuvers you might not be familiar with if you haven't followed the course in the order presented.

Frequently asked questions

We'll keep the FAQs page updated as feedback comes in. Check this page first to see if you may have already addressed questions you might want to ask.

Glossary of terms

We'll be introducing you to many new terms. Please refer to the glossary for definitions to terms that you may not already be familiar with.

Getting more help

If you need assistance during the course or have questions or comments regarding the content, you can use our feedback form which is accessible from the Welcome folder in the left menu. There are a lot of options and opinions on the best way to do anything, and we will attempt to present as many as possible in future updates. Your input is valuable and much appreciated.
